Dall-e and Nightcafe are two text to image AI generators, which are among the top of these kind of services. Basically, what you do, you just provide some description of the image, which you want to get, give that description to either Dall-e or Nightcafe, and you get back the image.
Those two AI have a lot of similarities as final aim is the same. However there are multiple differences, which I would like to discuss in this article.
Query submission page
On Dall-e and on Nightcafe pages there is simple text box, where you need to enter you query and press one button to generate an image. In that sense both page are similar.
However that’s it for Dall-e and for Nightcafe there are multiple additional options to choose. First of all, in Nightcafe it is possible to select an algorithm of how your image will be generated. If you want to use safest option, just select “Stable” and if you want to go more fancy, you take “Artistic”. In the page there is informative description of each algorithm so you should not go wrong with it.
Then in Nightcafe it is possible to select different style. This feature is quite handy as you can already predict, how final result might look and also you need to take care only about the description of the image content and not image style.
And that’s not it. If you want to get even more freedom with Nightcafe – you choose to work with advanced options. Now style selection is gone and you would need to describe image style yourself to a result, which is as close as your wish. Options are not that extensive but having possibility to pick aspect ration is nice, so you not ending with a square image each time.
Free Tier
On Dall-e you get 50 credits once you register. Keep it mind that those 50 credits should be used within a month as after that it is gone. After that you get 15 credits each month. Free credits do not roll over to the next month. So, it is better to use it and create some pictures.
For Nightcafe everything is a bit more complicated.
- Once you register, you get 3 credits
- You can get 5 credits each day if you login to the website and claim those credits.
- You can also get 2 more credits each day, if you will vote for at least 20 images per day, which are submitted by other users (yes, you can also submit your images).
So, getting credits on Nightafe requires some of your work and logging in each day might be a bit annoying. But, if you want to have something, you have to work.
Paid Options
If you want to get more credits, you are able to buy it on both AI pages. However prices and options to buy it are different.
On Dall-e website you just buy credits by doing a single purchase and you are done. And then those credits are valid for one year. You can buy 115 credits for $15 + taxes.
If you want to get more credits on Nightcafe website, there are different monthly subscription plans. So, it means that you will get specific amount of credit each month and those credits not going to roll over to the next month. Using Credits
As now you know all about getting credits, time to find out, how to use it.
If you are giving one request to either Dall-e or to Nightcafe, it will cost you one credit. And the output of both services will be 4 images. However, with Dall-e you are getting much bigger images with resolution of 1024 x 1024 px, when respectively with Nightcafe it is only 512 x 512 px.
If you want to increase Nightcafe image to 1024 x 1024 px, you need to use one credit for each image. So, in Nightcafe it would cost you 5 credits for the same as you would get in Dall-e for one credit. If you are fine with smaller images, then you just saved 4 credits. It is worth mentioning, that in Nightcafe you can increase image size up to 8000 x 8000 px, which would cost you up to 3 credits for one image.
So, for the free tier in Dall-e you can send up to 15 monthly queries and get 60 (1 query gives 4 options) images with a resolution of 1024 x 1024 px.
In Nightcafe for the free tier (considering that you will collect all free credits) you can get up to 210 queries and respectively up to 840 image of the fairly small format. However, I think that trying to collect all the credits is a bit of time waist, so more likely, numbers will be smaller. And, if you would like to get images of a better resolution, you will have to spent more credits for that.
Historical Data
In both services you should be able to see all images, which you have previously generated. I would say that Nightcafe provides more user friendly option to do so as images are grouped by your queries. On Dall-e site all images are displayed, which forces you to scroll more if you want to see older images.
Final Word

- Pick Dall-e if you want more simple option.
- Pick Dall-e if you want to buy more credits but do not like monthly subscriptions.
- Pick Dall-e if you don’t want to spent time each day hunting free credits
- Pick Nightcafe if you want to buy more credits and you like monthly subscriptions.
- Pick Nightcafe if you want to have more controls.
- Pick Nightcafe if want to earn you daily credits buy doing small tasks.
By the end of the day, the final decisions is yours. Probably, the best would just to use both services interchangeably and then, if some of those two you like more, you can stick with it.
